  • About RedStone Labs

    What is Minecraft?

Minecraft is a totally awesome 3D game where you can place blocks of – well, just about anything, really. At night monsters come out. You can buy it from minecraft.net if you haven't already.

    So I'm playing with others?

Yep, that's right! It means we're all playing on the same map, we can interact (trading, working together, fighting, etc). The Minepaedia has tons of info about stuff like this.

So, what's it like? What's going on?

It's friendly, usually. Also, we really like the stuff you make and will try to protect it, so build with some assurance that it'll be there when you get back. We also have other servers, check out the Worlds page.

Think of it is Civilized Survival Mode. There's a variety of projects going on, sometimes we have special maps such as SkyBlock.

We also have a few Adventure maps that you and a couple of friends can play on. These maps are not your standard Minecraft. There is usually a puzzle to solve, battles to be won, or specific tasks to complete.

As for the normal world, it's mostly empty as this point since we restarted for patch 1.5.0, so that means there is a clean slate to start just about wherever you like. In Relic, there are a couple of towns, generated villages, a subway at level 10 (not finished).

Whichever world you play, you are always welcome to make any of those your own. Build a farm for animals or crops, or create a Roman aquaduct, or start an enchanted armor shop to sell to other players. Also, watch out for monsters!

    How do I play?

Join our server! Buy Minecraft, then run it. When it opens, click on Multiplayer, then punch in the server address <worldname>.redstonelabs.net, and hit Connect. You're in!

Where in the world am I?

If you joined the normal world, its pretty barren and you are pretty much on your own.

If you want a more filled in world, try The Relic. If you start there, you will probably be near the Welcome Center. There is a cave around the back, search it for treasure. There is also a floating island. Figure out how to get to the top! If it's night and you are the only one online, there's a bed in the basement of the Welcome Center where you can right-click to sleep (and make it day). You can't dig or build around the Welcome Center, but it should be a somewhat safe enough place to get you oriented until you can venture out.

If you join Feed-the-Beast, you should be near the Nexus. Here you can grab some travel books and book-travel to many places.

    What should I do?

Well, anything, really. We have a nightly-updated 3D map for each world on this website so you can pick a nice place to make your home. Harvest a few trees, build a boat, and set sail for a new place! Or ask someone if they have a town or a spare room you can stay in.

Can I be OP? Can I get Creative Mode?

No, and no. OPs are picked by trust, and creative mode on survival and adventure maps are not allowed for non-OPs. Except in special circumstances, if an OP uses it to fix damage or something.

If creative mode is your thing, or if you want to do some design testing for final work in a survival world, we have The Forge.

How did we start? Origins story please!

No idea. Someone in ISLUG started a server back on Inconnu and it couldn't handle the load anymore, so we moved to RedstoneLabs.

    What about plugins and mods?

Server side? None (well, except Feed-the-Beast). We use the vanilla Minecraft server so no mods run on the server side. Client side? Use whatever you want. As long as it doesn't require a server side mod then you can use it.

What if the world explodes or wrecks my beautiful creation?

We make incremental backups every hour and they are kept for 30 days. If your project is destroyed (griefed) by anyone, we can revert the world. This also means others will have to start from the last backup.

    Moderation

Just follow the rules and you will be alright

  • General Rules

These are the general server rules.
Specific world rules are listed on each worlds' page.

Build what you like, follow the rules, and we will do just fine.

    1. Do not open chests that are not yours without permission from the owner, not even to see what is inside.
    2. Do not build within 100 blocks of someone else's project. They may need to room for something planned.
    3. All railways are public, but if they are damaged by a player, they must be repaired to the original condition.
    4. Houses, mines and other constructions are public unless locked or otherwise hidden by their owners, however, please do not make any modifications to those structures unless you have the owner's consent, or are repairing damage you may have caused. Any damage (eg, Creepers, TNT) that happens while you are visiting must be repaired.
    5. If you are visiting someone's mine, please do not mine any materials without the owner's consent.
    6. Any collaborative constructions between players are owned by all players involved in its construction, which means that any party is able to modify/build/destroy it.
    7. Nobody but you is to use your account. Do not let friends or family use it -- they can get their own accounts.
    8. The Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have done unto you.
    9. In order to be whitelisted, you must "sign" this document either by loggining into this server via ssh and adding your name to it (/var/www/redstonelabs.net/web/signed.txt), or by having one of the people on #islug do it for you.

Follow the Client Installation guide on the TerraFirmaCraft Wiki.

    About TerraFirmaCraft

"Survival Mode as it should have been." You've seen the quote alongside the logo, but what exactly does it mean? What is the true point of TFC?

The goal of TFC is to make things more believable, and to give the player a sense of accomplishment. Mastering skills, and searching far and wide to gather materials before you can build amazing castles, homes, fortresses, towns, cities, etc. The overhauled terrain generation also creates a beautiful, varied background as a canvas to start your builds.

Starting with the world, TFC has thrown out Vanilla generation and started on a fresh slate. Sea-level has been raised to twice the height to accommodate 3 separate, varying layers of stone underneath, each spawning their own ores and minerals depending on which of the many new stone types it is comprised of. On the surface, there are many different types of trees, large boulders, and smaller surface rocks scattered about. Grass, saplings and flowers slowly grow back depending on the temperature, while foliage changes colors to match the season. TFC also adds new crops and fruit trees as alternative food sources.

Progressing through the game consists of 3 main ages: Stone, Casting, and Iron. The stone age consists of primitive tools that take fairly long periods of time to complete tasks such as chopping down trees, and doesn't always result in the maximum output. Next is the casting age, reached through the newly added pottery system, consisting of copper and bronze tools and the addition of pickaxes, prospector's picks, chisels and saws. The iron age consists of basic wrought iron tools, all the way up to brightly colored red and blue steel alloys which require mastering the smithing system and rare resources to accomplish.

As usual, the general server rules apply.
